Mo Kolours: Biddes

The working title for the project is Neighbors, a series of short stories about individuals from various neighborhoods in San Francisco. Part conversational interview, part documentary – we get to know the individual in the context of their work and home environments, in order to gain a deeper understanding of their influences on the community.

The next in our series of mixes comes from CYMBALS. Made up of Jack, Dan and Sean, they’ve conjured up something wonderful for you, as anyone who saw them play at the last Off Modern will know that their sound oscillates between anguished adolescent wit, hyperactive guitar work, house pianos and improbably tight drumming, but this mix finds them giving into those 3 am euphoric urges that are always on the verge of spring out of their live sound – upon sending me the mix they apologised for it ‘all being a bit Balearic’ but if you give it a listen you’ll realise that there’s really no need for apologies.

Jonathan Zawada: Over Time Exhibition

An exhibition of large scale drawings and oil paintings at Prism Gallery, Los Angeles from December 16, 2010 – February 28, 2011 (bit late on the post, sorry). The landscape topographies were derived from graph data (displayed as printed mirrors on accompanying plinths), modeled in 3D and then oil paintings created from those 3D renders.

FREE MUSIC: Shankles / Gully Foil EP

Sighting a variety of alternative electronic influences – from Four Tet to Clark to Nostalgia 77 to Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble and beyond – the UK's Shankles weaves a sinister yet uplifting mix of twisted samples and dark breaks. His ability to seamlessly shift from delicate build-ups into claustrophobic crescendos is nothing short of refreshing.

The EP was mastered by another upcoming British electronic artist in S.maharba (BTS Radio/Error Broadcast/Ocular Science), whose finishing touches on the EP act as the fine veneer on a fantastic first release from Shankles. S.maharba has also contributed his own incredible remix of the track 6, 10, Half Of The Other.

Hello everyone. My name is Kenichi Hoshine and I am an artist from Brooklyn, NY. Like millions of others, I watched in horror as the earthquake, and the ensuing tsunami, ravaged parts of Japan and left a trail of death and destruction. As a Japanese person living in the United States, I felt rather helpless as the disheartening images and videos kept rolling in. All of my family members live in Japan and I still feel strong ties to the country. I wanted to help in any way I can.

Paul White brought you Ancient Treasures with Guilty Simpson, and Tranqill dropped a Hidden Treasures EP, and now we complete the accidental trilogy of hiphop-related booty: a New York rap mixtape boasting all-original production from our co-conspirator TightFace.

Treasures of the Five Boroughs pairs TightFace's electric funk and dusty-fingered swagger with vocals from the likes of Ghostface, Nas, Q-Tip and many more. It's brilliantly executed and now it's yours.
